2016 Retrospective

I was scribbling down some thoughts about last year….thought of sharing it…

What went well

  1. Got to know some very good people in this industry – professional and knowledgeable
  2. Created a very good case study for scrum training, working out very well
  3. Identified some new songs, movie clips to be used during PMP sessions – working out well
  4. Explored, learnt something about Lean – need to dive more deep
  5. Wrote some good blogs – was satisfying
  6. Interacted with close to 700 different people – 175 for PMP, 360 for scrum, 110 for scrum coaching, around 50 for MSP
  7. Worked with 19 different clients, 2 of them were my own references
  8. A few commercial aspects:
  9. 251 days of total work (in 2016)
  10. 65% of which was scrum coaching
  11. 15% PMP
  12. 15% scrum training
  13. Revenue between April till end of Dec is more than my salary while I was working, and 3 more months to go 🙂

What didn’t work well

  1. I had to let go some very good assignments – lost some good opportunities – अर्थात जे होते ते चांगल्यासाठीच 🙂
  2. Had a few clashes with colleagues during a coaching assignment, should have been avoided
  3. Need to develop more patience, control emotions and not react even if things don’t work as expected 🙂
  4. Worked with some unprofessional organizations – issues with payment!
  5. Could not negotiate well on commercials for some of existing assignments
  6. Some opportunities could not work out – अर्थात जे होते ते चांगल्यासाठीच 🙂
  7. May be if, if I had tried harder, more commitment, I could have got it
  8. Not actively using social media, like FB, twitter, my own website, etc to develop, maintain contacts with past participants or in general
  9. Need to upgrade my skills – didn’t focus on learning anything new formally
  10. Couldn’t maintain some connections professionally – should have been more responsive

What I should start / continue doing

  1. Active use of social media – FB page, my own website
  2. Revamp / enhance my website and use it more often myself J
  3. Continue to dive deeper in lean as a subject (first 6 months)
  4. Continue to work with knowledgeable people now connected to me
  5. Present something at an agile gathering this year
  6. Participate / present something in a meet up sometime during first 6 months of 2017
  7. Upgrade myself – do SPC (first Q of 2017)
  8. Do not accept poor commercials now onward
  9. Strive to find more complex, BIG agile transformation opportunities
  10. Develop another case study project to be used for scrum training
  11. Explore more movie clips, videos for PMP sessions
  12. Continue writing blogs as and when something clicks 🙂
  13. Reduce number of working days in 2017 (by 10% at least), keeping revenue almost same 🙂
  14. Dedicate that saved time for something “more valuable” in life 🙂
  15. Give more time for my kids and family
  16. Walk at least 20 km every week! + at least 10 surya namaskar every day
  17. Continue to connect with people  who are more talented, interesting, knowledgeable than me 🙂

Finally, you always need family’s support, parents’ blessings and God’s grace, without that nothing is possible! I have been fortunate….
